Amber Glass Stones

How can I tell if some old jewelry are gems or just glass?

I have some old brooches with a few stones fell out.I dont think the metal work is something like silver or gold, and believed that the stones were plastic, but upon closer inspection, the not.One have purple-colored stone, and was amber. They are cut into roundshapes and oval (like the shape of an eye). The second is the small crystal-like stone and has something like 3104 scratched R14 / etched on the back in very small writing.It have anything etched afer the last 4, but I can not make it out. I have asked the local jewelers and they all charge £ 25 to see, and then a% of the value of top.One shop said £ 25 per post!

Ask a jeweler to make you an offer on jewelry. If he makes you an offer, you know that the stones are real and the metal is expensive and you need not take the offer. If they are not true, he'll tell you, he can say anything bad, but we do not buy jewelery. But do not ask him if they are real, or how much are they worth remembering that he is running a business not a charity. You'll have to pay for his knowledge, like you would do if when you consult a financial adviser.
