Is there an easy way to tell if a piece of crystal bead is for real?
I see many shops selling crystal jewelry, like pendants, bracelets, earrings etc etc and they "claim" them to be 'real' crystals, jack the price up voraciously. 1. Is there an "idiot's guide "way to tell if a piece of crystal is for real or just a piece of manufatcured colored glass or hardened resin? Thanks
There is a hardness scale from 1 (talc) to 10 (diamonds). If there is anything that is supposed to be equal in hardness or less than your crystal can scratch it, it's not the type of crystals you've been told it is. If buying amber, pull out a lighter and ironing it. If a merchant comes now, "AIEEEEEE !!!!," and rakes the model away from you, so things were plastic. REAL amber – he will not object. The flame will not hurt it.
